Cycling to Saldanha – First fully-laden practice ride

As summer approaches and March 2018 looms closer, it is time to get some miles into the legs and on the saddle before flying off to Singapore.  Andre, my brother-in-law, arranged for us to ride to Saldanha Bay and back over the first 4 days of September.

We set off from the Wooden Bridge in Milnerton, destination !Khwa ttu – the San Culture facility on the West Coast.  See the route map and details from Garmin Connect below.

The folk at !Khwa ttu looked after us really well.  We camped for the night in a Bush Lodge – a well-equipped tent, just right for a nights rest after a long cycle.

A fire and a cold beer – great end to the day

The next day we headed up to Saldanha via the West Coast National Park where we were delighted to see the beautiful spring flowers.

On the 3rd and fourth days we retraced our routes.  We had a strong tail wind on the last day which delighted us and made us very grateful we were not cycling in the opposite direction.
